Common Name: Scientific Name: Fennec Fox; Vulpes Zerda
Accession number Sex Birth date Weight Bands Transponder
0.1 09/17/04 1.0 lbs
DIET: Still being fed three times daily. At each feeding we use about ¼ c. Nature's Variety Prairie chicken and
rice dog kibble (and/or Science Diet), slightly soaked; mix in a Tbsp of Fancy Feast grilled chicken or turkey and
gravy cat food; add approximately 1/8 c. of (thawed) frozen mixed vegetables (green beans, peas, carrots, corn,
lima beans). Occasionally we substitute diced fruit for the vegetables. Mealworms are used occasionally as a
treat and enrichment.
BRIEF REPRODUCTION RECORD: None, this is a young animal
.
GENERAL MEDICAL HISTORY AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: No medical history, this is a healthy young animal.
Vaccine record: XXXXXX canine distemper (Modified Live) ½ ml. Given on 11/18/04. Next boosters due on
12/30/04; 02/11/05. We use ½ the usual dose of vaccine for the first year, then they receive the full 1 ml. Dose
after that. Please refer to the enclosed vaccine information on recommended Parvo vaccinations. She has not
been vaccinated for Rabies, but you can use the Imrab 3 after 6 months of age with no negative reactions. She
has not been de-wormed, no evidence of internal parasites. When de-worming, we use Droncit for canines, ½
tablet every 6 months, Panacur is also used with good results. She has not been treated for fleas; however,
you may use Frontline for felines; they tolerate this well. WE DO NOT EVER USE COMBO VACCINES ON
FENNECS…they are very sensitive to vaccines, and if there is any live cultures in them, the result is almost
certain death!
ENCLOSURE, MAINTENANCE DATA: She has been housed inside in a tri-level cat cage, containing her bed,
food, toys and a box for a den on a substrate of newspaper. If using a litter box or sand for playing, use only
playground sand or clay litter for her, as the clumping kind of cat litter sticks between their toes and causes
digestive blockages when ingested.
PERSONAL COMMENTS: This animal was born to a domestic raised pair, Sweety and Petey. She was 1 of a
litter of 4. She was bottled raised from 10 days old, well socialized with people and other pets (dogs/cats). She
is very much a lover, and loves to be with people.
